These pages are all about my four basenjis. But as their proud owner, let me tell you something about myself as breeder.
I'm relatively new to the dog world, Lara (b. 2009) is my first dog ever. After reading about the breed, watching countless photos and considering all the warnings about basenji not being the ideal dog for a first-timer, I had no doubts whatsoever that I had found my forever breed when I first met Lara.
In 2013 I took the basic and advanced courses in dog breeding required by the Finnish Kennel Club, and in 2014 I applied for a breeder status.
I am an active member in the Finnish Basenjis association, being involved in several committees and the editor in chief of our quarterly publication.
In 2014 I also completed the requirements for acting as official in track racing and lure coursing competitions in Finland.
I'm very interested in the physical as well as mental well-being of animals, and have taken a course in canine anatomy and massage techniques. My dogs have all been on raw food diet since very early on, and this is a subject of great interest and continuous learning to me.
All my interests manifest in what I do with my girls: we occasionally attend dog shows, frequently take part in track races and lure coursing competitions, enjoy daily long walks in the woods and footpaths and crazy spurts in dog parks, we love good food and lazy mornings, and regularly exercise with the Dobo balancing ball to maintain our figure! See more about our activities elsewhere on these pages.
